To all our ACS Dublin volunteers & friends
Can you name some diseases with a higher toll than HIV/AIDS? Claiming close to 4,000 lives a day (that makes it more than a million per year), Tuberculosis remains the top infectious killer in the world.
A call for help
ACS Dublin has received this specific call for help and we think we can rightly direct you to donate where different items will be both appreciated and also fulfilling a special need – Orphan Children.
We are invited to help a TB Children’s Centre in the Republic of Moldova.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a communicable disease that is a major cause of ill health, one of the top 10 causes of death worldwide and the leading cause of death from a single infectious agent (ranking above HIV/AIDS). TB is caused by the bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is spread when people who are sick with TB expel bacteria into the air; for example, by coughing. About a quarter of the world’s population is infected with M. tuberculosis.WHO, TB 2020 Report – https://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/handle/10665/336069/9789240013131-eng.pdf
Imagine this Centre for Phthisiopneumology and Rehabilitation for Children in Tirnova (region Donduseni), a town located at 175km from the capital Kisinev (near the border with Ukraine), where more than 120 kids are being treated on long term for their TB and associated illnesses.
It is both a treatment and a rehabilitation centre for orphan children of all ages (5 to 18 yrs). That is kids who cannot stay in the hospitals for as long as their illness requires, due to respiratory issues, or kids that need to be isolated due to TB outbreaks in their families (if they have any) etc.
Two of our SDA members in Dublin, Nicolae and Veronica Mihalachi, having some local connections will go there at the end of July.
What is needed? Clothes, underwear, shoes, toys that we can ship there. As on every project, any amount of money (managed by Nicolae) can be a blessing, when buying right there what is of a specific need.
We got this call to help. For the next three weeks (especially on the Saturdays, when ACS runs) you are invited to bring in your donations. Add a little label (TB/MD) so we can easily identify your contributions. Deadline 20 July.
For more details please get in touch with Nicolae and Veronica – 086 063 6736.
Thank you very much
